fresh flowers fix everything.

wake up to something pretty

I am not joking. I had been waking up every morning with a sad little face, as I looked at the mess and non-nice arrangement atop my bedroom drawers. No matter how many times I played around with decorating, I just couldn't get it right.

I brought home a gorgeous bunch of locally grown roses, and put them on the drawers. For some strange reason, this happened. And I thought it looked pretty damn nice.

So now, I can wake up every morning and smile. I just need to promise to buy fresh roses every week, and not catch a glimpse of the so called "collection" of drinking glasses that my boyfriend has on his bedside table. He tells me it will keep growing because that is what collections do. The other day I noticed him drinking water out of a wine glass. That too has joined the collection.

ok. I will admit it. I have bright purple walls in my home and I hate them. What is that?? NO it was not my choice, they were like that when we moved in! gosh. But still. I have to live with them. Because it is a rental property and I don't know about you but I can't be effffed spending the time persuading the landlord, or money on getting them painted. Although, maybe a little investment now will save me on medical bills down the track when I go INSANE due to crazy living conditions.

Maybe it has been a good thing. Because I have learnt what I like, and what I don’t. I have learnt that I love, crave and need a neutral palette as a base, and from there, I can inject small shots of colour. I certainly don’t need overdose on ridiculously permanent hits of colour on walls that prevent anything else from having the slightest chance of looking good.

Oh, and we have two black leather couches. I know they are “good quality” and I shouldn’t be mean because they are my boyfriends and he loves them. Which is fine. But just picture heavy black couches WITH super dark/bright purple walls. That and the fact there is little to no natural light in the place… yeah. If you need me I will be rocking back and forth in the corner.

What I Wore Today

isn't gemma correll just too cool for sch[k]ool!? I am such a fan of her art and illustrations, and so you can imagine my excitement when she started the too cool for school flickr group, What I Wore Today!

I secretly love the "what I wore today" style flickr groups using photos, but I have never had the courage to actually snap a full body portrait and post it up. (Or even if I have actually taken the photo, it is the actual posting up part that I find hard to commit to!) Any how, this special flickr group requires you to draw what you wore, so no need for any embarrassing photos to make their way into the public domain!!

here are some of my favourites so far. click on them to be taken to the artists' flickr page.

to any new followers. welcome. I hope you like your stay.

by association

when I was little I used to go for walks with my Nanna.
I would always ask her all the names of all the flowers.

Bird of Paradise was always my favourite,
and I would always say to my Nanna, "tell me the real name Nanna"

"Strelitzia" she would say.

"Say it again Nanna!"

"Strelitzia" she would say.

I felt so botanical.

a fresh find

I love it when I find a new artist that I just love everything they have done. I mean I see great images all the time that I like, and constantly look and smile and feel and go wow. But sometimes, you just need to tell someone.

Over Inspired.

Do you ever get like that? Over inspired. I have so many ideas flowing at the moment, i dont know what is good, or what is rubbish. I guess I just have to spend less time worrying about it, more time creating!

Flickr has been one of those things, inspiring me and what not.

Having always been a fan of blind contour drawing, I decided to start a little project. A while ago i bought a lovely notebook with handmade paper and I have always been too nervous to use it. I wanted it to be something special. I decided that I was going to do a blind contour drawing in it everyday of whatever reference I felt like. So I did.

Oh and I also decided to make a little flickr group to encourage my little challange to myself. So please, I would love you all to join me! click here and join!

Happy drawing!
